Diving with Scuba Junkie means that certain things are a given. Our professional team have your safety as their top concern. Groups are no bigger than four divers per guide, and your guide will be a PADI Divemaster or Instructor. Groups are also organised according to certification and experience level, ensuring you get the most out of every dive.

Having as little impact on the marine environment comes a close second in terms of our priorities. All of the dive professionals at Scuba Junkie will also brief you on how to get the most out of each dive site by following correct protocols and respecting the marine environment. When you adhere to these protocols, you have longer and more memorable encounters underwater.

Last but definitely not least – We’ll ensure you have great FUN on all your dives and our friendly crew will always be waiting for you at the end of the day to log your dives. You will arrive as a guest but leave as a member of the Scuba Junkie Family!

Kota kinabalu diving
Most people come to Kota Kinabalu (KK) to dive the famous KK Marine Park (Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park) which features five amazing islands Gaya, Sapi, Mamutik, Manukan & Sulug. This famous marine park has been a marine park for more than 40 years, and its marine life is carefully monitored and protected by Sabah Parks. As a result this area is home to thousands of schooling fish, pristine coral reefs, unusual critters such as sea horses, frogfish and octopus as well as Turtles, Black Tip Reef Sharks, Rays and during the season even Whale Sharks come and visit. 

This Marine park is ideal for all types of divers from beginners to the most experienced of Instructors. Around every corner of every reef there is a hidden gem waiting for divers to discover… During the surface interval or if you are not a diver we can take you to one of the parks beautiful Islands. The islands are some of the most beautiful in Sabah with pristine white beaches, coconut palm trees, and azure blue waters. There is something here to meet every divers and snorkelers tastes

the diving day
Our state of the art speed boats depart daily at 8:30am from the Jesselton Jetty and by 9:30am you will be suiting up and performing buddy checks for the first dive of the day. All our dives are guided by experienced dive professionals (PADI) who will ensure that your dive is safe, fun, and that you will see as many of the exciting marine species in the area as possible. 

Two morning dives are followed by a relaxing lunch on one of the Islands, while enjoying the tropical paradise. The third and final dive of the day takes place after everyone has had enough time to digest lunch, usually around 2pm. After the third dive our speedboats safely shuttle you back to Kota Kinabalu, while you enjoy the views of the Islands and Mt. Kinabalu while discussing the marvels that you have just seen with your dive guide and dive buddies.

We have a thorough emergency action plan in place, all our dive staff are EFR / CPR trained and we have oxygen onsite for our trained staff to use in case of an emergency. We have thorough Covid-19 safety measures in place to keep you & our staff safe and to ensure that you still have an amazing trip. We follow PADI & DAN recommendations, you can’t fly for 18 hours after diving so the earliest you should book a departure flight is 10am on the day after you finish diving.

No Decompression Limits (NDL) – For those of you diving with your own dive computer, we ask that you inform your dive guide when you have 10 minutes of NDL’s remaining so that they can start to shallow up and extend the bottom time for your group. Decompression diving is not allowed.

Insurance – Insurance isn’t mandatory for diving in Kota Kinabalu, but we highly recommend it.

skills refresher
If you have not dived in a while then we offer a FREE skills refresher at the start of your first dive with us. You will practice some basic mask, regulator and buoyancy skills before you head off on your first dive, to make sure that you are feeling confident in the water.

dive boats
We use 33ft fibreglass speed boats for diving to get you to the dive sites quickly and safely. Our boats have life jackets, GPS, emergency oxygen and first aid kits on board. If you break a mask or fin strap, or chomp through your mouthpiece, we’ve got that covered too.

dive equipment
BCDS: We have a combination of Mares Rover & Scubapro T-1 BCDs.

REGULATORS: We have Scubapro brand regulators. All of our rental regulators are Yoke valves- if you have a DIN regulator don’t worry! We have DIN adaptors available to borrow during your trip.

WETSUITS: We have 3mm shorty wetsuits or full length suits if you prefer a bit more cover. Water temperature rarely drops below 27C!

MASKS: Our masks are standardized one size fits all! Please note that we do not have prescription masks available for rental or retail.

FINS: Our fins are closed heel style (no need for booties!) available from size (European) 34 to 46-47.

We provide Suunto dive computers to all students and they are available to rent for certified divers.

Our tanks are 12L aluminium.
